10 Most Terrifying Video Game Zombies
8. ReDead - The Legend Of Zelda
The ReDead made its debut in Ocarina of Time, and subsequently appeared in each new instalment of the franchise until Skyward Sword.
However, this iconic monster has been absent ever since.
The only trailer we’ve seen of the Breath of the Wild sequel concluded by showing a monster resembling a desiccated corpse reanimating - a design reminiscent of the ReDead - so perhaps they’ll play a central role in the upcoming game.
Unlike most of the other perennial Zelda monsters, the ReDead’s design has varied wildly between instalments; while the Twilight Princess version was the dullest of the bunch and lacked originality, both the Wind Waker and Ocarina designs look like boogeymen pulled straight from a child’s nightmare.
ReDead have a fragile, doll-like appearance. The Ocarina incarnation was made all the more horrible because of the N64’s knack of making character models look abstract and bizarre; in this case rendering the ReDead’s face like an impassive wooden mask.
The gameplay mechanic of these enemies has largely remained the same: they freeze Link in place with a deathly stare before closing the distance to climb on his back and nibble on his head.
