7. Guacamelee 2
Guacamalee was an incredible MetroidVania game with great humour, precision gameplay, fun collectables, and more suplexes than a Brock Lesnar match.
The follow-up, aptly named Guacamelee 2, is everything you could ask for in a sequel; bigger, more mechanics that make sense, and far funnier. It's a love letter to MetroidVania games, with Mexican/wrestling trimmings, and it has been criminally overshadowed.
Whether that is because the indie marketplace is just so crowded these days, or if it was due to releasing in the same window as Dead Cells and The Messenger, but Guacamelee seemingly just came and went.
Regardless of all that, Guacamelee 2 continues the story of Juan, Mexican wrestler who has been killed but now straddles the lines between the living and dead. You traverse the beautiful Mexican worlds, fighting wise-cracking foes and turning into a chicken, because why not? Guacamelee 2 is one of the best MetroidVania's you can buy, and DrinkBox Studios is one well worth supporting!
