Although a first-person shooter set in the Batman universe could have been a disaster waiting to happen, the campy and colourful Gotham City Imposters proves that you force a superhero franchise into completely different genres and still make it work.

Playing as either Batman-inspired vigilantes or Joker-worshiping criminals, the multiplayer shooter pits the two teams against each other over a multitude of different maps inspired by the DC Universe. Although the weapons and gadgets aren't the most inventive or memorable, the wealth of customisation options for your character makes for a great reason to keep playing, as the different riffs you can have on famous costumes ensures that every player has a distinctive style.

And while the game started out as a paid downloadable release, Gotham City Imposters has since adopted the free to play model, meaning that you should immediately go and instsall this underrated gem. Once you've finished reading this article, of course.
