While it's not a straight-up Batman tale, much of DC Universe Online is based in the familiar stomping grounds of Gotham City. Taking on most of the hero's greatest villains, missions have you battling against Gotham's underworld in order to stop the entire city from being overrun by the likes of Scarecrow and the Joker.
It's a cool setting for an MMO, and the game truly captures the comic book style and history of the setting in an authentic and respectful way, full of easter eggs and in-jokes that reward the most dedicated fans of the superhero.
And Bats does play a rather integral role in the larger narrative, popping up from time to time to deliver key pieces of information and join you on the more high-risk missions.
It's a portrayal of the Caped Crusader filtered through the eyes of an outsider; the Dark Knight acts as a mythical figure who dispenses wisdom and fills in as your guardian angel while you find your feet during the early hours of the expansive MMO.
