10 Most Underrated Horror Monsters In Video Games
5. The Abominable Snow Monster - SkiFree
When PC's biggest company commissioned the Microsoft Entertainment Pack back in 1991, little did they know of the horror they were about to unleash.
One of the minigames in the pack was SkiFree, an endless runner where you amassed as many points as possible going down a ski slope before your run - and your skier's life - ended in the slavering jaws of The Abombinable Snow Monster.
This b*****d yeti - which looked like the product of a bored child's 2-minute doodle in MS Paint - caused a ridiculous amount of player anxiety over the years. Even knowing that you could simply press the F key to outpace the monster, you were still left with the knowledge that your run would end in one of two ways - you died at the hands of an immutable, unescapable avatar of death, or you checked yourself out of the game early. Even as a child, it was hard not to realize the stomach-churning truth being presented in this twisted dilemma.
It's brutal. It's relentless. It's SkiFree - a life-long lesson in existential dread wrapped up in a 38 kilobyte package.
