10 Most Underrated Horror Monsters In Video Games
3. Mina Onda - Siren
The Tragic Monster is a common trope in storytelling - think of Doctor Octopus driven mad by his own tentacles, or the virus-possessed Baker family in Resident Evil 7 - and few monsters are as tragic as Forbidden Siren's Mina Ondo.
Forbidden Siren gained cult status for its macabre storylines, and Mina's story is arguably the darkest of the lot. A nurse killed by her lover after the latter discovered her pregnancy, Mina is resurrected as an immortal, headcrab-esque zombie. Her sister later joins her as a member of the undead, yet it's only after dying their torment begins.
Shiro Miyata - the same man who murdered Mina - becomes obsessed with studying their condition, trapping them in a lab and torturing them repeatedly to test the limits of their immortality. He also - in one of gaming's most disturbing moments - rips out the infected fetus of his and Mina's child and stomps on its wriggling body.
Make no mistake - Mina may be the monster you have to fight, but it's the man behind her suffering who's the real villain. (He does eventually redeem himself, but by then it feels too little too late. You know what's better than atoning for being a murderous sociopath? Not actually being a murderous sociopath in the first place).
