10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Video Games
1. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West (2010)
Released back in 2010 and based on the classic book Journey to the West, Enslaved is set in an eerily beautiful post-apocalyptic world in the remnants of a huge global war. The game follows the story of Monkey, a prisoner-turned-slave who is forced into helping a woman called Trip find her way back to her home village.
With its stunning and vibrant visuals, Enslaved utilises some seriously fast-paced platforming and tricky puzzles to bring the best out of a world reclaimed by nature. Monkey also comes equipped with a unique staff weapon that has the ability to double up as both a powerful melee weapon, as well as a long range projectile weapon.
Originally envisaged as a CGI-heavy film, there are definitely plenty of cinematic elements to enjoy across Enslaved, on top of the slick gameplay and endearing storyline. But, despite almost universal praise from every critic that sampled the game, Enslaved fell well short of what Namco Bandai had expected to see in terms of sales. Plans for a sequel to this truly underrated gem were planned, however the low sales meant those plans were shelved and left this game right under everyone's radar.
