10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Video Games

3. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine (2011)

Science fiction hack 'n slash games are woefully underrepresented in the gaming world, however Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a shining example of just how good it can be when you get it right.

Players take control of Titus, 2nd Company Commander of the trio of Ultramarines we meet in the game that include Sergeant Sidonus and Leandros. Titus is a genetically-engineered superhuman, capable of regenerative abilities and some serious physical strength. This proves to be invaluable as the game pits players up against marauding, brutish Orks and the ever-sinister Warhammer classic villain Forces of Chaos. The Forces of Chaos are a particular highlight in the game, summoning iconic Warhammer villains from The Warp to ruin Titus' day.

The game really utilises the power of Titus and the Ultramarines nicely, coupling powerful melee combat with a refined fury meter that, when filled up, will grant players with the ability to perform powerful melee attacks, or slow down time with one of the game's ranged weapons. Speaking of the ranged weapons, there's something seriously satisfying in watching Titus rise up from simple pistols to huge Vengenace Launchers.
