Resident Evil 2 is always a contender in the discussion for best game in the franchise, introducing popular protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, building on the seeds laid by the original game and truly elevating the Umbrella Corporation to a world-threatening organisation – this game is well deserving of its solid gold reputation.

However, there is one dark patch in this game that most people tend to skip over. Let’s talk about the alligator.

After finally escaping the puzzle-and-zombie-filled RPD, you’re forced to make your way through the sewers and are faced with what is perhaps the easiest boss fight in the entire franchise.

A giant alligator emerges from the water and begins lumbering towards you, jaws snapping for a bite of your tender flesh. It’s an unexpected moment but there is no real threat here. Simply backtrack along the corridor where a handily placed gas tank will fall out of the wall.

If you’ve ever seen Jaws, you knew where this was going.

The alligator gobbles up the tank in its mouth and a single well-placed shot causes its head to go boom. This was slightly improved in the 2019 remake but not by much, leaving the alligator as a truly underwhelming boss fight.
