10 Most Underwhelming Bosses In Resident Evil History

6. Gravedigger - Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

The Gravedigger is a strange addition to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The fleshy worm with a nightmarish maw turns up randomly earlier on in the game when Jill falls through the streets of Raccoon City, before making its final appearance in the park at which point you have to fight it. The Gravedigger is the only boss fight in the game that is not Nemesis, and feels tacked on and unnecessary as a result.

It isn’t necessarily that the fight itself is bad. Previous games had featured similar fights such as the giant snake in the original - snakes and worms are basically the same, right? - and another burrowing worm in the next game, CODE: Veronica (fun fact- Resident Evil 3 and CODE: Veronica were being developed at the same time).

What makes The Gravedigger feel so underwhelming is the awesome impact of the Nemesis.

Nemesis is a force of nature in the original version of Resident Evil 3; scary, powerful and seemingly unstoppable, and is the only villain in the franchise to get his name on the title. Given that so much of the game is focused on Nemesis, the Gravedigger battle feels more like an awkward interruption than the exciting battle that it really ought to be.
