10 Most Unique Mystery Video Games Ever

7. Firewatch

LA Noire
Panic

To be clear, Firewatch is indeed a walking simulator, but it's a very unique one. Before the release of games like The Long Dark, Campos Santo's Firewatch gave us a completely new setting to explore and survive in - a remote American forest.

Seemingly filled with tame creatures and the occasional wolf who will only attack if provoked, the secrets of the forest don't seem to go too deep. The setting of the forest is different from the dark and mysterious jungles of Far Cry or the exotic thug-inhabited locations of Uncharted.

The kind of challenge you'll find in Firewatch is different. It's the solitude that can prove to be difficult depending on who you are. The feeling of safety that's non-existent in other games does exist in Firewatch, but there's a sense of fear and reverie that comes from living in the untamed forests of Wyoming. Reminder: it's not a survival game, it's a lesson.

Firewatch tells the story of Henry - a man escaping from his troubles by becoming a fire-watcher in the Shoshone National Forest in 1989. There is a mystery to be solved in this game, it's just not the one you were expecting.
