8. Luma
While we know Rosalina is coming to the game thanks to trailers, Rosalina's former racing pal is absent from the race. When Rosalina was first introduced in the spin-offs in Mario Kart Wii, a Luma was by her side. Fast-forward to Mario Kart 8, and they are lucky to be drawn in the background as course artwork.
Luma has been a playable character twice in the Mario Tennis series, most recently appearing in Mario Tennis Aces. While there is no promotional reason to put Luma in the game, it sort of feels weird to have both Rosalina and Baby Rosalina in the game without their trusty sidekicks there.
