10 Most WTF Video Game Reboots
7. Bomberman: Act Zero
One of the most infamous and baffling video game reboots ever, Bomberman: Act Zero took the tiny, adorable mascot character and transformed him into an edgy, grimdark Iron Man with a giant hand.
To be fair, he does resemble the American cover art for the original NES game, but this was 2006. We had been laughing at those ridiculous western NES game covers, that in no way resembled the game they were advertising, for over a decade.
I mean, look at this guy. What even is he? A guy in a suit? A robot? A cyborg? Well, I have good news: there's lore!
It turns out all answers are correct. Because the bomberpeople (yes, there are also bomberwomen) are "Artificial Human Weapons," created underground and pitted against each other in a battle to bomb their way to the surface and be the last bomberperson standing. Why? Who cares.
Sure, that's about all the story you need for an online-only multiplayer game (oh, did I forget to mention that this re-imagining of one of the original couch multiplayer games was online-only?). But, again - and I can't stress this any more without pulling a muscle - we're talking li'l cutie-pie Bomberman being re-imagined as the monstrosity you see above.
What?
