10 Moves PlayStation MUST Make
8. Lower The £70 RRP
It was tempting to just leave this entry as "£70 for Ratchet & Clank?" and leave it at that, but professional pride/WhatCulture's editing department prevented it.
Back in 2020 Playstation head honcho (the boringly named Jim Ryan) and Take Two CEO (the fantastically monikered Strauss Zelnick) banded together to defend the £70 premium for next-gen games. Both the executives cited the increased size of games as factors for increasing the price, which is nonsense as:
a) The aforementioned Ratchet & Clank game takes about a dozen hours to complete.
b) PS5 launch game Demon's Souls still costs £70. The recently released Elden Ring - Demon Soul's' vastly more expansive spiritual sequel - costs £50.
c) Gamers aren't stupid enough to conflate length with value. Just look how badly Deep Silver were castigated when they tweeted that Dying Light 2 would take 500 hours to complete.
Basically, Sony, Take Two and other companies like Square Enix got greedy and decided to stiff gamers for an extra £20 just to see if they could.
And on the subject of dodgy pricing...
