10 Movies Which Tried To Capture The Essence Of Gaming
8. The Dungeonmaster
It's fair to say that some of the most hilariously entertaining movies inspired by gaming emerged during the 1980s, but you'd be forgiven for not seeing The Dungeonmaster (initially titled Ragewar), since the production company responsible for it, Empire Pictures, collapsed before its release. Still, thanks to the internet, versions have been available for some time, so if you really wanted to see it you can track it down. Whether or not you should make the effort is open to debate. The plot revolves around Paul Bradford and his girlfriend Gwen who find themselves facing off against Mestema, a sorcerer keen to find decent gamers with which to do battle. Each segment is filmed by a different director, which on the one hand makes singling out a particular style for The Dungeonmaster a little tricky, but on the other certainly keeps audiences on their toes. It's actually not anywhere near as awful as you might think from the planned box cover (see above), while the line "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" has been popularized by non other than Mythbusters. If you're feeling adventurous hunt it down on YouTube and see for yourself.
