10 Multiplayer Video Games RUINED By Microtransactions
7. Destiny 2
Coming off the Sparrow of the original Destiny, Destiny 2 was already on shaky ground. While the first was eventually well received, there was a lingering, untold accusation that it hadn't been what Bungie had promised to originally deliver. Destiny 2 was going to be the remedy to all that. "There were cutscenes," Bungie said, "The gameplay wasn't as repetitive," Bungie explained, "Peter Dinklage must refrain from coming within 500 feet of the studio," Bungie promised.
Yet fans still felt aggrieved when the sequel rolled around, and a new currency, Silver, had been implemented to separate the glowing, dancing wheat from the chaff.
These Microtransactions began to get more invasive as time passed, lurking in the background like an insidious, moon-dwelling Wizard. They went from offering dance moves and shaders, to engrams and armour, leading players to question the whole "Guardians stand as one" mantra.
The Microtransactions grew to be so controversial that it led to Bungie separating from the toothy maw of its publisher, Activision, and promising significant changes.
While Destiny 2 may have been knocked, there's a real chance for Bungie to give the series a renaissance, taking it in a newer, less financially manipulative direction. Vive la révolution, Guardians!
