Sony Bend is not a typical game development studio. They found moderate success with the release of Uncharted Golden Abyss for PS Vita back in 2011. This game was one of the best offerings on the handheld system, and it was enough to score the software house a shot at a full fledged big budget game, Days Gone.

Days Gone was very buggy when it released in 2019, and it lost a lot of fans due to this. However, after a few weeks and several patches, the game turned into a stirring open world adventure that truly deserves a chance.

The story centers around the surviving members of a biker gang based in Oregon after a zombie (freaker) virus brings society as we know it t an end. Oregon is absolutely breathtaking in this game, especially as rain storms sweep through the environment.

While various small groups of freaks litter the state, there are at times massive hordes that feature hundreds of infected. Fighting these massive hordes is truly some of the most kinetic and intense gameplay that can be found on any console from any generation. Days Gone is a great first original IP from a relatively unknown studio, and even with a slight stumble right out of the gates, this game is a treasure that you owe to yourself to checkout.
