10 Needless Video Game Features We Could All Do Without

4. Health Regeneration

Been shot several times by the bad guys? Better hide behind a wall and let the several holes in your lung magically regenerate. Health regeneration is used pretty religiously as a core mechanic in modern first and third person shooters, instead of health packs, medkits or any other form of health item. Most of these games don't even have a clear health bar or display, it's usually shown by a color tint on the screen, or the implementation of a sound effect like the beating of your heart. The problem with health regeneration is that it often makes game-play feel remarkably cheap, easy and without challenge. Because there's often no other way to restore health, the player will just remain behind cover until they're healthy again, making it completely safe to pop out behind a wall, chip away at a few enemies and duck right back into cover. Call of Duty is most notable as the series which made this a standard medium in games, however, there are a few that manage to pull off the mechanic better than others, like the Uncharted series. Either way, there must be a better way of doing things in regards to patching up wounds.
