10 No-Brainer Video Game Sequels That DIDN'T Get Made
1. Dead Space 4
Last but not least we come to another highly regarded franchise that ended up being gutted by its publisher. Since its debut in 2008, Dead Space was a market leader in gaming horror. In the boots of engineer Isaac Clarke, the original game was a claustrophobic struggle for survival and its sequel an intense action roller coaster.
Things went sideways with Dead Space 3 which dropped the pretense of survival horror and threw in some crappy microtransactions for good measures. With a muted critical reception, the franchise ended on a meek note. Yet developer Visceral Games was very keen to continue the property on their own terms.
Since 2013, further details for a proposed Dead Space 4 have emerged. Creative director Ben Wanat stated it would have been a hybrid between linear and non-linear chapters while continuing from where the story had left off. The developer clearly had great passion for the project and had it proceeded, Dead Space could have redeemed itself among the masses.
This was not to be as Dead Space 3 sold under expectations, compelling Electronic Arts to abandon the series. Visceral Games later met their end in October 2017 when EA, viewing them and their planned Star Wars game as financially unviable, closed them down to the dismay of many.
