10 No-Brainer Video Game Sequels That DIDN'T Get Made
5. Star Wars Battlefront 3
Another Star Wars game to make the list, Star Wars Battlefront 3 was in the works at Free Radical Design. Its two predecessors, produced by Pandemic Studios, are held in very high regard for seamlessly translating the combined arms warfare of Battlefield into the Star Wars universe.
There were big additions planned for the third entry, most notably seamless transitions between planetary and space combat. Sadly the ambitious project would be cancelled by Lucasarts executives, who feared the project was getting too expensive. Free Radical would collapse into administration and be bought out by Crytek shortly thereafter.
Star Wars itself fell into the hands of Electronic Arts several years later. Now that the brand has left high prominence with the sequel trilogy wrapping up, the custodians of the license are unlikely to pursue a third modern Battlefront. Still with the bare-bones 2015 version and its greedy 2017 sequel, much of the community would argue that it's for the best.
Seeing what EA did to the once proud Battlefront series makes it all the more damning at what could have been. Years after the cancellation though, fans have been building the Star Wars Battlefront 3 Legacy Mod. This complete conversion aims to resurrect the title and create a more faithful successor to the 2005 classic.
