10 Obvious Video Game Traps (You Walked Into Anyway)

7. The Shotgun Trap - Resident Evil

Tomb Raider Anniversary
Capcom

If there's one universally accepted truth about the original Resident Evil, it's surely that ammo and weapons are scarce as hell, and so when you're suddenly presented with some hefty firepower totally out of nowhere, there's gonna be a catch, right?

That's certainly true early in the game when, while exploring the Spencer Mansion, you'll eventually stumble across a room with a shotgun suspiciously mounted on the wall.

Take the weapon and it's immediately clear that a mechanism of some sort has been triggered, and so when exiting the room, you'll find yourself stuck in another room with a slowly descending ceiling primed to crush you to death.

Players must either replace the shotgun with the broken shotgun, or if they're playing as Jill, wait for everybody's favourite Resident Evil character, Barry Burton, to show up and prevent them from becoming, in Barry's words, a "Jill sandwich."

The lesson here? If Resident Evil gives you anything useful, it's almost never a pure act of kindness.
