10 Obvious Video Game Traps (You Walked Into Anyway)

4. Killing Ocelot - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Tomb Raider Anniversary
Konami

With Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater being a prequel, franchise creator Hideo Kojima had a ton of fun messing with players who, intentionally or not, committed acts which broke the series' continuity.

Case in point, at the end of the game's prologue mission, Snake will knock out a young Revolver Ocelot, leaving him entirely vulnerable to your attacks if you so wish.

And even though we as fans know that Ocelot must survive the events of the game, given that he's still alive many decades later in the series' other titles, that only left many players all the more curious to see what would happen if they nudged him off his mortal coil.

After all, this is Hideo Kojima we're talking about - a man who's never turned down an opportunity to ingeniously troll players.

And so, if you dare to shoot or stab a sleeping Ocelot, you'll suddenly trigger a Game Over, at which point Colonel Campbell - who doesn't appear in the game otherwise - will chew you out from the future, explaining that by killing Ocelot you've created a time paradox and changed the future.

Hilariously though, killing Ocelot will also pop the brilliantly named achievement, "Problem Solved, Series Over."
