10 Most Offensive Portrayals Of Men In Gaming

8. Tidus - The Brainless Surfer Jock (Final Fantasy X)

I suppose by the end of Final Fantasy X, Tidus did prove his worth as a fighter, but that's not really enough for me to like him. Tidus instead adheres to the affable yet unintelligent surfer-dude jock stereotype, with his perfectly-styled hair, quirky dress style, and rather inane dialogues throughout the game. The most complained about scene featuring the character is when Yuna tells Tidus to force himself to laugh when he feels sad, and the resulting horrible laugh causes them both to genuinely laugh: though that makes sense, it doesn't make the scene seem any less awkward and silly. On the plus side, he's a lot more upbeat and optimistic than most of the Final Fantasy protagonists, and he's a great athlete as far as Blitzball is concerned, but it's easy to forget all that given how insubstantial he is as a character. Yes, he has a little growth throughout the game, but he's still incredibly annoying, and more to the point, as dumb as a box of rocks.
