10 One-Of-A-Kind Horror Video Games
9. I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream
You can typically expect something quirky and fun like Monkey Island, Grim Fandango or Orion Burger when it comes to point and click adventures. But, if you go into this game expecting that same level of wholesomeness, then you're teeing up for quite a shock.
The game is based on a short story of the same name written by Harlan Ellison. It depicts the events after a nuclear apocalypse, where an artificial intelligence called AM used its power to obliterate humanity - save for five unlucky souls, who he keeps. AM has an endless hatred for humanity, so he subjects these five humans to eternal torture.
Throughout the game, you take control of each character in turn and use logic puzzles to attempt to find a way out of your situation. This drives you through a horrifying adventure full of personal trauma, sin, varying stories and some terrifying visuals.
Although the point and click gameplay is unique for a horror title, the utterly nihilistic and hopeless fate of the characters carried over from the original story gives this title its flavour.
Plenty of games explore post-apocalyptic worlds, but this one does so in a truly unrelenting way.
