10 Optional Bosses Harder Than The Final Boss

9. Ruby Weapon - Final Fantasy VII

The Final Fantasy series has a long tradition of insanely difficult optional bosses. Pretty much every title in the series includes some kind of "superboss" that exists solely to offer the player a challenge after they have already done everything there is to do in the game.

The most famous example of this is the Ruby Weapon, one of the two superbosses from Final Fantasy VII.

The Ruby Weapon is a huge mech with razor-sharp claws and a snake-like head that breathes fire. It can be encountered near the Gold Saucer after the player defeats the Ultimate Weapon, which, in retrospect, may not be as "ultimate" as its creators had hoped for.

The fight with the Ruby Weapon requires a ridiculous amount of grinding to give the player even the slightest bit of chance to stand their ground. The mech is a ruthless damage dealer, and without using some shrewd tactics, it's basically impossible to beat it.

Still, it's not even half as annoying as those damn toads.
