How much more otherworldly can you get than an actual alien species? And when said alien species infects an entire planet to create a whole new hybrid race? That's when the humans' number would seem to be up.

The Chimera made themselves known on Earth in the 1920s, infecting people on a countrywide scale and converting them into their own forces. By 1957, despite the efforts of the enhanced Sentinel army, ninety per cent of the world's population were either killed or converted by the heavily militarised alien invaders.

The most common type of Chimera is the Hybrid, a mostly humanoid creature with six eyes, a huge fanged mouth and cooling tanks fused to its back. From there, the ranks become less and less familiar; there are the crafty Steelheads, the zombie-like Grims, the pus-filled Leeches, all the way up to the building-sized arachnoids, Widowmakers.

Each game sees new strains pop up, with some even breaking away from the Chimeran Hive Mind and becoming feral. It's safe to say that, regardless of how much humanity went into these beasts' creations, almost none is represented in the final product.
