7. Dead Rising 2 - Noxious Zombies

resident evil 4
Capcom

The first Dead Rising, Capcom's other zombie franchise, may allegedly not have been inspired by Dawn of the Dead, but the zombies were the same. Alright, the zombification process was altered, but they were slow and dull, only waking up a bit at night.

So when Dead Rising 2 came about, the undead largely went unchanged. Or so the game lulls players into thinking...

Much like the first one, there's an Overtime mode in the sequel. A "proper ending" pathway, these change up certain parameters in each game, like tighter time constraints and harder objectives.

In Dead Rising 2's case, that includes a newer type of zombie too. One that produces more gas than a sprout diet, and will incapacitate Chuck if he's too close.

It changed the game up somewhat, as players had to be cautious about going in swinging, lest the shambler they take out making our hero susceptible to being munched on.

Tactic and planning were necessary, which goes against the carnage-attitude instilled in players for most of the game.
