10 Outrageously Inventive Video Game Weapons

7. The Wabbajack – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim is the grandfather of the modern fantasy RPG. As we all know, grandfathers deserve plenty of respect and admiration, but they’re also a little bit old fashioned. That’s how the majority of Skyrim’s weapons feel. The standard array of daggers, swords, and axes is solid but unremarkable. Even the spells are routine affairs that would elicit no more than an underwhelmed shrug from the average sorcerer.

Do not despair however, young Dragonborn, for one standout weapon more than makes up for the otherwise mediocre assortment of pointy metal things. The Wabbajack is an ominous-looking staff imbued with not only the most potent of magic, but also a wicked sense of humour. When cast on an enemy, the Wabbajack inflicts a completely random effect on the target. These effects range from transforming foes into exploding chickens, to disintegrating them instantly, to turning them into cheese.

This randomness brilliantly counteracts the predictable nature of most other weapons and spells, bringing variety and hilarity to every encounter. Sadly this amusement cannot last indefinitely, as the Wabbajack must be charged with elusive filled soul gems in order to continue casting its mirthful magic. Comedy comes at a price, you know.
