10 Overlooked Movie Licensed Games (That Were Actually Awesome)

8. The Warriors

For as terrible as video game movie tie-ins are, it often bodes well if the title in question isn't released to coincide with the original silver screen release. Even better, when the tie-in comes out almost 30 years after such a thing - made by a developer as esteemed as Rockstar no less - you can probably guess it's going to be more than a quick cash-in.

With more or less the entire cast returning to their roles, The Warriors was set three months before the events of the film and featured all of the brawling brutality you've come to expect from the violent classic.

To shake things up for the licensed game, there was a much heavier emphasis on street brawling over the classic gunplay players had come to expect from Rockstar, which meant that the title's combat was much tougher, but much more rewarding than the developer's previous efforts.

With grabs, combos and melee weapons, the title's street brawls felt gritty and messy - the perfect balance between gruff gang violence and over the top video game mayhem. It might not have aged well since, but for the time Rockstar's little passion project-turned-blockbuster was one of the most refreshing movie tie-ins to ever be released.
