The creators of Knights Of The Old Republic II, Pillars Of Eternity, Outer Worlds, and Fallout New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment are one of the few developers who've rarely put a foot wrong throughout their existence.

It’s disappointing, then, that one of their most recent games has gone completely under the radar, and that’s Pentiment.

Released at the tail end of 2022, this aesthetically gorgeous game takes place in Medieval Bavariam where protagonist Andreas has started an apprenticeship in a monastery, only to become swept up in a murder mystery.

With limited time each day, players must decide which leads to follow and which of the locals to spend time with. From here, the plot expands into a grand tale that spans decades and carefully examines the choices you make.

Just as compelling as the intriguing narrative is the game’s stunning art style, which looks like a medieval manuscript come to life. Combined with thoughtful dialogue, a serene soundtrack that's as striking as the visuals, and a fantastic eye for historical detail, Pentiment quickly immerses players within its beautifully realised world.

It's unlike anything the studio has made before, but it's nevertheless another wonderful Obsidian game.
