10 Perfect Gaming Remakes That Easily Beat The Originals

8. XCOM: Enemy Unknown

There's always a danger in meddling in anything considered 'cult'. Cult films and games tend to generate a rabid following (hence the term) who, more often than not, will take an immediate dislike to anything that 'improves' that title. The original X-Com series (beginning with UFO: Enemy Unknown) is definitely a cult series having earned its cult stripes thanks to challenging and rewarding strategy gameplay. Would people accept a modernised version of the series though? Surprisingly so, actually. It helped that XCOM: Enemy Unknown stayed incredibly close to the game's original gameplay design, offering turn-based isometric strategy without skimping on the hardcore elements of the game like permadeath. It also continued to be a hugely punishing game, inspiring us to become better players; after all, there's nothing more emotionally destroying than raising a soldier up for hours and hours then seeing him obliterated because you'd left him vulnerable for one turn. It immediately won over fans and critics (unlike the first-person shooter spin-off The Bureau: XCOM Declassified which was pretty much doomed to fail from the start) and with an expansion already released for the game, the franchise seems to have a bright future in the modern world.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
