10 Perfect Video Game Stories (That Were Ruined By The Sequels)
9. Traveling Back In Time (And Quality) - Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
The Sly Cooper games are a classic series of 3D action platformers about a world-famous racoon theif. The original trilogy is widely regarded as some of the best games in their genre, but the fourth installment...
Well, let's just say every universe with anthropomorphic animals needs a black sheep, and Sly Cooper's just so happens to be digital copies of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
The fourth entry is universally hated within the Sly Cooper community for radical change in the tone of the series, which also takes a toll on the story.
Whereas the original trilogy was a mostly comedic but somewhat grounded treasure-hunting story, The Thief in Time does a full-nose dive into childish comedy, turning the main cast into caricatures of their old selves and the plot of the game into a bad time-travel episode of a less than mediocre sitcom.
It also doesn't help Sly Cooper 4's case that before it came out, the series had reached a satisfying ending, with the gang going their separate ways, happily retired from their thieving careers.
To have them get back together only to have them act like Mickey's Clubhouse characters doesn't even feel wrong. It's downright degrading!
