Geralt's trusty steed 'Roach' is a wonderful companion in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. His ability to appear at the Witcher's aid immediately when commanded is nothing short of magical, and his race day speed gives the White Wolf more than an unfair advantage in the various races on offer across the land.

But, all jokes aside, Roach's actual impact on gameplay in The Witcher 3 is unfortunately limited. Travelling on horseback is definitely a quicker alternative to running across the huge map, but it'll scarcely top the appeal of fast travel from signposts. Equally combat is possible on horseback, but it's far too unruly to be sustainable for very long.

Honing the mount mechanics could make the likes of Roach feel like a much more useful friend. If subtle changes to the control methods allowed for better control of the horse's speed then constantly having to dismount for combat would be a thing of the past, and players wouldn't have to rely so regularly on the cop-out that is fast travelling.
