10 Perfectly Crafted Video Games That Never Need Sequels

8. Ikaruga

Ikaruga is a frighteningly addictive game, but it's also a game that will drive you completely insane with its punishing difficulty and make you beg for mercy. As a very clear tribute to the 80's space shooters, Ikaruga excels on every level of game design imaginable. It's infamous for its difficulty, but it also isn't completely unfair in the way it dissects you with incredible precision to leave you a puddle on the floor. If you're a member of the Dark Souls crowd, you'll find yourself right at home in this brutal world of high-stakes action. Perhaps the reason why Ikaruga 2 hasn't been made is that gamers are still trying to get over ripping their hair out; a preemptive measure to preserve the blood pressure of the gaming industry. In all fairness, an Ikaruga sequel wouldn't be the worst thing to happen to the world, but the first game is presented with such unflinching pride, that a sequel would undoubtedly be lacking that same devil may care attitude. These days, it's all about the mass audience and how developers can hook the mainstream gamer, so it's likely that Ikaruga 2 would be extremely watered down. No thanks.
