The last three Assassin's Creed games -- Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla -- have had something in common: they're all set before the original.

You see, the main games GENERALLY went forward in history. Sure, they've jumped around a bit -- Black Flag was set before AC3, and Rogue was nestled between them -- but they never backtracked to the days before Altair. The last few, though, have done just that.

What if Ubisoft wanted to go further back? How much further back could you go than ancient Greece and ancient Egypt, while keeping it anchored in actual historical events? Well, how about one of the empires of Mesopotamia?

The true first civilization in human history, a story set in Mesopotamia could set up connections to the Isu. Mesopotamian mythology has plenty to offer, as well. The Tablet of Destinies, for example, was said to give the wielder control over the universe itself. The writers could say that the Anunnaki were inspired by the Isu. You could even fight monsters like Anzu or Ugallu.

The protagonist could scale the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, rub elbows with Hammurabi, or prowl the streets of Sumer.

There's plenty there, and it's a criminally underutilized setting in fiction.
