10 Pointless Video Game Reboots NOBODY Asked For
1. DmC: Devil May Cry
Overview: A success to fans, but not to Capcom, after Devil May Cry 4's sales failed to meet Capcom's expectations, they ordered a reboot in an effort to revitalise everything from the ground up. The result was Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry.
Why It Was Pointless: Where to begin?
Much like its protagonist Dante, DmC is Devil May Cry in name only. It features a slightly dumbed-down version of the franchise's signature gameplay but none of its charm or style. It strips Dante of his laid-back and somewhat dorky personality, and replaces it with a cocky, punk type of attitude. One that's nowhere near as appealing as the old Dante's.
Fans reject the reboot so much that they refer to its version of Dante as "Donte" or DINO (Dante In Name Only). Despite Devil May Cry's director Hideaki Itsuno (who wasn't involved with DmC) claiming that he'd be up to make a sequel to the reboot, he and Capcom ultimately made Devil May Cry 5 instead, which greatly satisfied fans.
