Overview: 2006 marked Sonic's fifteenth anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Sega released a brand new Sonic game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Seeing as it was also the first major Sonic game developed for the (at the time) new and revolutionary consoles, Sega decided to make it a reboot of the franchise.

Sonic the Hedgehog (now commonly referred to as Sonic '06) featured a brand new setting, new characters, and gameplay heavily inspired by the Sonic Adventure titles.

Why It Was Pointless: Oh boy.

Sonic '06 is plagued with numerous unfixable issues that made it the laughing stock that it remains today. It has glitches, ugly character models, realistic humans even though Sonic and his friends retain their cartoonish bodies, bad gameplay, and the list goes on. It's infamously known to be one of the worst games ever.

The game's main female protagonist, Princess Elise, acts as Sonic's love interest. His human love interest. The one that revives Sonic with a magical kiss after he's murdered in the game's final act. As you do.

The game may have been a critical failure, but luckily for it, the Sonic franchise is invincible. The very same year, Sega released a new Sonic game for the PlayStation Portable titled Sonic Rivals.

They moved forward like nothing happened, and so did the rest of us.
