10 Pokémon Games You've (Probably) Never Played
8. Great Detective Pikachu: Birth Of A New Duo
Many people now know about the talking version of Ash’s best bud thanks to the Ryan Reynold’s voiced film adaptation, but the full version of the game for the 3DS was proceeded by the shorter and downloadable game, Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo.
BoaND was originally released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan on February 3rd 2016, over two years before the full game came out. As the title somewhat alludes to, the player teams up with a talking Pikachu as you explore and solve mysteries in Rhyme City by talking to people and discovering clues. The gameplay is mostly point-and-click (with some quick-time events thrown in for good measure) followed by a fairly simple logic puzzle.
While it was essentially just a teaser for the full game that contained the first three out of nine chapters that were unveiled in the full Detective Pikachu game, it does have a prequel story that was released to promote the game in Japan in the form of an eBook (later in physical form as a preorder bonus) called Episode 0 - Eevee’s Case.
