10 Popular Pokémon That Struggle Battling Online
7. Sceptile
Sceptile's popularity is well-earned from its time on Ash's team in the anime, and by being one third of arguably the most popular set of final evolution starters in the series. The choice between Treeko, Torchic, and Mudkip was one of the hardest decisions in Pokémon because Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert were all flawlessly designed and powerful. That being said, Blaziken and Swampert hold their own much better on the competitive scene than Sceptile, and can do so without Mega Evolving.
When used without a Mega Stone, Sceptile still has decent Speed and Special Attack stats to hit hard and fast. The problem is, it can't hit hard enough to guarantee an OHKO. Paired with Sceptile's frail Defence stats, it's more likely that the opposing Pokémon will get the knock-out first.
Many other 'Mons can tank Sceptile's attacks quite well as Sceptile's coverage moves aren't STAB boosted. It is also weak to many common Fire and Ice threats found online.
The final nail in Sceptile's coffin has to be its poor Abilities. Overgrow only activates when Sceptile is near fainting - which is usually the end for Sceptile anyway - and Unburden only increases the Speed of a Pokémon that is already fast.
