10 Powerful Video Game Intros That Gave You Chills
4. Silent Hill
I may have gone on record recently and said that Silent Hill has aged terribly, but it doesn't do anything to get that intro Eternal Sunshine'd from my brain. It's seared on there.
From that haunting mandolin intro as Harry Mason enters the titular spooky town, right up until that alleyway.
No one really knew what they were in for when Silent Hill arrived, nor did we appreciate how brooding it was compared to Resident Evil. We also weren't prepared for one of those "you're meant to lose" confrontations in an alley after discovering an eviscerated cadaver.
But as it was, Silent Hill make its intentions known very early on: that you should fear everything. It could have been worse though, if Konami had stuck with the original enemy designs (at least for the PAL version, anyway).
Being clawed to death by skinless mole things is bad enough, but originally it was small children with knives that took our man down.
It's an opening ten minutes or so that sends the first of many chills down your spine, so be warned.
