10 Problems With Destiny 2 Nobody Wants To Admit
6. 75% Of The Worlds Kinda Suck
I'll give Activision this: The new Earth maps are fantastic - brilliant interweaving concoctions of subway tunnels, dilapidated rubble and the occasional open-air forest section. Solid, varied and enjoyable to play.
The others... well. First up, there aren't anywhere near enough of them, as even outside of Destiny's inherently grindy nature meaning you're replaying the same chunks of the same environments over and over, there are only four 'worlds' in total.
Within that, yes the EDZ is a rather sizeable expanse, but Titan is nothing more than a handful of small oil rigs, and IO and Nessus almost feel interchangeable once you get underground. The latter two shoot for some sort of "strange alien world" aesthetic, but aside from Nessus' dynamically shifting platforms that manifest and disappear for various quests (letting you clamber out of the world to considerable heights), there is very little to write home about.
Case in point: The EDZ has seven Lost Sector loot caves, whilst Titan, Nessus and IO have two, five and two respectively.
Again, outside of the EDZ, these 'worlds' feel more like levels. Boosting off a high surface and looking out across the landscape hammers home how many corners were cut to essentially connect a series of corridors and kill boxes together, and in the long run, it doesn't do the game any favours.
