Est. Sales So Far: $4 million

One of the most recent additions to this list, Pyre's overall sales may not have reached double digits, but like Hellblade, it's besides the point. Indeed, the very fact that a text-heavy, 'choose your own adventure'-style game with NBA Jam-like sports elements made millions is cause for celebration.

Taking a step back from the sales figures, Pyre tells the tale of the Reader (you) being one of the only outlaws amongst the Downside who can understand the 'Rites' - three on three showdowns where various teams attempt to dunk an orb into a goal, to win their freedom.

Just from that description it's one of the coolest games of the year, but overtop you have some immaculate character work being put into each new recruit, as well as a Mass Effect Codex-sized glossary of terminologies and dissections of justice, purpose and ultimately, rebellion.

Pyre is but the third game from the masters over at Supergiant Games, and it will only catch on more as we head into Game of the Year season.
