8. Sony Has Pulled Out Of E3... But Why?

Earlier in November, Sony announced their bold decision to pull themselves out of the biggest gaming event of the year, E3:

“PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

Whilst it's not unusual for some companies to pull out of E3, instead setting up their own conferences and presentations elsewhere, it very much IS unusual for Sony to do so; this being the first time in the 23 years of events they have not attended.

Gaming industry veterans and fans alike have speculated it comes down to biding time until they can announce the PS5, or that with their line up consisting of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II, there's simply no new games to announce.

Honestly, they might just be a bit embarrassed after the whole theatrical thing of 2018, but the 'plans' at least show that PlayStation has something big up its sleeve.
