10 Promising 2020 Video Games You Must Consider

4. Hollow Knight: Silksong

journey to a savage planet
Team Cherry

Silksong was originally intended to just be a DLC pack for the original Hollow Knight, before the ideas expanded so much to deserve their own individual game. There’s still no firm release date in place, but 2020 looks likely. Hopefully it’ll live up to 2017’s Hollow Knight, and will garner the same level of cult following.

Rather than playing as Hollow Knight this time around, players will be the much more lithe and energetic Hornet.

In a nice piece of symmetry, Hornet is tasked with climbing ever higher in the Pharloom citadel, while Hollow Knight saw you descending deeper into the Hallowwith every level.

Silksong is set to share the 2D, Metroidvania style gameplay, with the checkpoint system still in place and a lot of the core mechanics identical. Various tweaks between each game’s approach to problems will differ, although we don’t know how yet. The charm system is set for an overhaul too, being replaced by quests.

Seeing as it was planned to be DLC, Hollow Knight’s original Kickstarter backers will get Silksong for free too. It’s the sort of game which thrives on community positivity, and this feels like a very fitting gesture.
