7. Doom: Eternal

After 2016’s Doom reboot proved to be a big hit, development began on Doom: Eternal. In November this year, we’ll finally see the fruits of that labour as the influential and iconic first person shooter puts out its fifth instalment.

In an age of cover shooters and a greater introduction of tactics in the FPS genre, Doom is a throwback in all the best ways. Want more health? Go all Rambo on the demons. Low on ammo? Yep, Rambo for that too. Trying to progress through the level? You can guess where this going...

Doomguy (Doom Slayer, if you prefer) comes with more weapons than ever this time around, including the legendary BFG for your demon blasting pleasure. There’s also the brilliantly named Meat Hook melee weapon, which doubles up for both combat and traversal. The gory weapon digs itself into demon flesh and slingshots you towards them in a very visceral attack.

Speaking of demons, there’ll be more of those this time around too; twice as many as in 2016, to be exact. There’s even an optional online Invasion mode where you can join other players’ game as the demons they’re slaying. Eternal is shaping up to be the best Doom ever.
