10 Promising Video Game Sequels That Completely Killed Their Franchises

8. Prince Of Persia (2008)

Despite actually being a pretty great game in its own right, the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot failed to live up to the rest of the series, and the franchise has never been the same since.

The biggest dividing factor for Prince of Persia was the difficulty. Whereas other PoP games required perfect timing and mastery of the platforming mechanics, this made it so you could never die no matter what situation you're in. Combining this with extremely simple combat mechanics meant that Prince of Persia felt like a far cry from the vision of the originals.

Out of all of the games on this list, Prince of Persia is perhaps the most disappointing. The graphics are phenomenal, gameplay is entertaining despite being easy and the characters are likeable and interesting. It's just a shame that because of Assassin's Creed's popularity and the lack of reaction to this Prince of Persia, it prevented the reboot from ever properly taking off in its substantially distinct new direction.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
