10 PS1 Games That Completely Messed With Your Mind

7. Kula World

Sometimes you have to take a step back from a game to appreciate its true weirdness. In this title from Game Design Sweden AB, you progress through various suspended, rotatable courses, in the style of M. C. Esher. Working with changeable gravity physics, you collect keys, coins and various bits of vegetation against the clock. Oh, and also you are a sentient inflatable beach toy who's origins and purpose remain unclear.

Kula World also pushed player's sensory envelope by becoming one of the earlier games to adopt use of the DualShock vibration function of the PlayStation controller. The game contains some out-of-nowhere trip-out moments, with your spherical protagonist able to consume several types of pills, altering the in-game physics further. Add to this the constantly shifting and rotating camera leaving you feeling like you are, in fact, living inside a Rubik's Cube, and you have the recipe for a truly mind bending experience.
