6. Killing Mama Draygon In Front Of Her Kids
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1iYHygFhEY The creators of Super Metroid must have had a special going on questionable moments, because the game is full of them. Besides the aforementioned Crocomire battle (and without going into some of the more obvious instances, such as the events with the Metroid at the end of the game), one which might have slipped past the radar of some people is the battle with another boss, Draygon. The encounter begins in an unusual, fashion, with four small creatures-- well, relatively, as they're about the size of Samus-- come swirling out across the stage. Naturally, a player's first instinct is to defend themselves by opening fire, as about 90 percent of the life on this planet has it in for you. However, you do them no harm, nor do they inflict any on you. Either way, the four aren't by themselves, as the (presumably) mother Draygon emerges to lay the smackdown on the armored jerk who is threatening its kids. Truth be told, Draygon is perhaps one of the tougher encounters in the game, with its erratic movements making it difficult to inflict damage on its weak spot as considerable harm is inflicted on Samus. It is possible to win through the tried and true method of missiles and charge beams, but a much easier way is to blast the turrets situated around the room so that their innards-- and electrical currents-- are exposed. Once Draygon grabs you, a well-placed Grappling Beam shot will surge power through the beam (and Samus!) straight into Draygon, sending the boss to an early, extra-crispy grave. Assuming Samus has enough energy herself to withstand the assault and tactic, players will witness Draygon fall to the ground below, where its children return to take it away, deep beneath the sand. It's worth noting that a turtle-like creature earlier in the Maridia region acts similarly, but isn't as easily destroyed as Draygon. But mess with its kids, and it comes after you just the same. As it turns out, the kids don't have very long to mourn, anyway: Once Samus takes out Mother Brain, the space pirates have the entire planet rigged to go up in one big blast, leaving very few survivors and committing planetary genocide. Jerks.
