Neverwinter Nights 2 is a Dungeons-and-Dragons-inspired roleplaying game. In true DnD fashion, most of your interactions are decided by dice rolls, and this can actually be quite troublesome when trying to acquire one specific item.

The game's tutorial in the starting location of West Harbor is set up as a local fair that the player can participate in in order to win the title of West Harbor's Champion. The game lets you skip it, but if you do this, you miss out on really nifty prizes you get from winning all of the fair's challenges, including a cloak and a cup that increase your charisma and give you free healing charges.

However, even if you stick around for the tutorial, you're not guaranteed to win the prizes. Since your character is fairly low level, most challenges at the fair are dependent on your dice rolls, and failing two events will prevent you from becoming the champion.

All in all, the unique gear you get at the festival will take a lot of effort and reloading, but it's certainly worth it, as you can't get it anywhere else and it gives you a nice boost at the start.
