Shantae and the Pirate's Curse was originally released back in late 2014 for both the Nintendo 3DS and WiiU, and has since seen a slew of re-releases for the PS4, Xbox One, and, most recently, the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

You might be forgiven for thinking that a re-release for the Nintendo Switch might not have garnered a massive following considering the handful of consoles the title has been released on in the past seven years.

Shantae fans are nothing if not tenacious however, with copies of the Collector's Edition of the game going for anywhere from $800 to $1,200 this year alone. When the game first launched on the Limited Run Games site back in 2018, it was retailing for $65. So what made it shoot up in price so quickly?

For a start, it's not easy to find out how many copies of the game LRG manufactured. There could be anywhere from only 200 to 1,000 copies floating around.

Pirate's Curse is also the third entry in the franchise, which likely means people have since played the first two games and desperately want to own the third, but weren't lucky enough to catch the title during its initial run on LRG.
